Changed my mind about reading older comic runs

I always skipped pre-2000s stuff because the art looked dated and the dialogue felt clunky. Then I tried 80s X-Men after a friend said the Dark Phoenix saga had better pacing than the movie. Has anyone else found an old run that actually held up better than they expected?

That Dark Phoenix run is a solid start, but I think a lot of those old comics are overrated. The art in the 80s is rough, and the word balloons are way too crowded with narration. I tried reading Frank Miller's Daredevil after everyone raved about it, and it felt like a slog. The stories are simple and the action is stiff compared to what we get today. Respect to the history, but I'd rather stick with newer stuff most of the time.

Man I feel this. I tried reading Claremont's X-Men once and I swear I aged ten years just trying to get through one issue. The word balloons in those old comics are like reading a novel that's also trying to do a magic eye puzzle. I get why people love them but my brain just checks out after a few pages. Maybe I'm just too used to modern pacing where things actually move.
