Spent 8 years reading comics the wrong way until a shop owner in Cleveland set me straight

I used to fly through issues, focusing on big action panels and ignoring the small background details. Then a shop owner in Cleveland asked me what I thought of the street signs in issue 47 of a Daredevil run. I had no clue what he meant because I never looked. He showed me how they matched real Cleveland intersections and told a side story about city corruption. That moment made me realize I was treating comics like a movie instead of reading every inch of the page. How long did it take you guys to start paying attention to the small stuff?

Oh man, same here, I totally missed all the little clues in the background for years too!

Friend of mine watched Silent Hill 2 for the first time last week. @barbara_baker57 I swear he was three hours in before he noticed the nurses weren't just standing there. Said he was too busy trying to read item notes. Missed the entire creepy atmosphere vibe. Had to point out the radio static and the camera angles to him. Now he's going back through everything again.
