Found out from a 30 year diver that most Gulf rig work pays by the foot, not the hour
He pulled out his old pay stubs from 2011 in Houma and showed me he made $4.75 per linear foot on a pipeline job. Do you all get paid by depth, by the foot, or by the day where you work?
Wait, you're telling me rig work isn't all hourly? That's not how I heard it. My cousin did sat diving in the late 2000s out of Morgan City and every job he talked about was day rate, something like $800 a day plus a piece of the job. Same with the tenders I knew, they got paid by the day no matter how long the dive ran. Maybe that per foot thing was just for certain shallow pipeline work? Being paid by the foot kind of makes sense on a run you can measure, but down deep that math gets scary fast.
