Just realized I was tying my dive boots wrong for 3 years

Was on a job in Houma last month and this old timer looked at my boots and laughed. Said I was doing the criss cross lace method and it was cutting off circulation. He showed me the straight bar lace technique where you go across the tongue instead. My feet stopped going numb after 2 hours in the water. How long did it take you guys to figure out simple stuff like this?

Nah, I'm gonna push back on this one. I've been doing criss cross for ten years and my feet are fine, never had any numbness issues. Maybe it's just me but I think the straight bar method puts too much pressure on the top of your foot and makes the boot feel loose around the heel.

Man I totally get where youre coming from but I gotta laugh at myself here. I tried the criss cross method for like two weeks back in 2018 and my left foot went totally numb by mile 3. Guess Im just built weird or something. The straight bar thing works for me because my heels are narrow and I need that extra lock down. But yeah if youve been doing criss cross for ten years without issues then you must have the most forgiving feet on the planet. Maybe I should just accept that my feet are delicate little babies and stop trying to force them into every lacing trend.
