Lost a whole client after a cheap PSU killed their motherboard last Tuesday
Installed a budget 600w unit from a no-name brand and it took out the board plus the GPU three days later, what brands do you actually trust for budget builds?

Oh man, that's rough but I've been there too haven't we all? I built a budget rig for a friend last year and grabbed one of those cheap $30 power supplies from a brand I'd never heard of. Three weeks later their PC just wouldn't turn on, and when I opened it up the PSU had leaked some kind of goo all over the inside of the case. Fried the motherboard and the hard drive too. Now I only use EVGA or Corsair even for budget builds, their cheaper units like the CX series are still solid and don't cost much more than the junk ones. You really can't skimp on the part that can destroy everything else.

Funny thing is I had the exact opposite experience last year. Grabbed a $25 Amazon special 750w unit from a brand I'd never heard of for my own secondary rig, and it's been running 24/7 for eight months now without a single hiccup. EVGA and Corsair are great and all but they're not the only game in town, especially when you're on a tight budget. The real issue is knowing what you're buying, not just the brand name. A lot of those cheap units actually have decent components inside if you look at the right ones, plus the warranty on your client's hardware is what insurance is for anyway.
