Update: My old shop lead in Toledo told me to image every drive before touching it, and I skipped that step once
A shop lead named Ray in Toledo drilled this into me back around 2016: always pull a full image before you run any repair tools on a customer's drive. I got lazy on a walk-in's laptop and ran a quick scan first, which wrote to the disk and wiped out the file table. The customer was a wedding photographer with about 4,000 unbacked-up photos on there, and it cost me three days and a $180 recovery service to fix what a 20 minute clone would have prevented. Does anyone here keep a hardware write blocker on hand for this, or is software imaging good enough for you?
