After switching from a standard magnesium float to a 14-inch aluminum one for my garage slabs, I saw a way smoother finish in half the time.

The lighter weight let me keep moving without tiring my arm out, so I could hit the right timing before the bleed water came up, but does anyone else think aluminum leaves too much of a 'slick' surface for broom finishes?

Found the same thing with aluminum. It can get too slick for a good broom texture, especially on a humid day. I keep a standard magnesium float in the truck just for that final pass before brooming. Gives the surface just enough tooth to hold the broom marks without tearing up the cream.

Can we talk about my slick floor, or is @sandrat24 right and I just made a skating rink?

Sandra's point about keeping a magnesium float on hand is smart, but it's not just about humidity. That slickness happens because aluminum doesn't drag like magnesium does. It's more about the mix being a touch too wet when you make that final pass. If you wait just a bit longer for the sheen to go off, the aluminum won't slick it over as bad. Then you can broom it fine.
