My wife's sourdough routine explained my slab timing issues

I was staring at her bread dough on the counter last Sunday. She said it needed to sit for hours to develop properly. It clicked that concrete is the same way, you can't force the set. I used to jump the gun on finishing, leading to tear marks and a rough surface. Now I think of that dough bowl and give it extra time. Did a driveway this morning and the wait paid off with a smooth finish. Guess I owe my better work to a loaf of bread.

Wait, you never realized concrete needs to cure before? That's wild.

You mean it doesn't just dry right away? I saw it in movies where people step on it instantly, so I guess I assumed that was real. I once tried to fix a patio stone and ended up with a permanent footprint, so lesson learned. Maybe it's just me but I'm clearly not a DIY genius.

My brother rushed the grout on his bathroom tiles and half of them popped up a week later. Some materials just won't be hurried.
