Used steel trowels vs. magnesium floats for my last driveway pour in Denver
I had to pick between a steel trowel and a magnesium float for the final finish on a 1,200 square foot driveway last month. I went with the steel because I wanted that super slick, dark finish, but man, it showed every single wave and bump I missed. My buddy swears by magnesium for outside work since it helps the concrete breathe and keeps a more uniform texture. Anyone here have strong feelings about which one works better for residential flatwork?

My neighbor tried steel on his patio and it looked like a topographical map.

Why do we always think steel is a good patio idea, @juliag10? I'd end up with a map of the Himalayas.
