Saw two guys arguing over JFK files at a diner in Waco

Last Saturday I'm eating eggs at this place off I-35 and these two older dudes start debating the magic bullet theory like it's a football game. One guy pulls out a printed diagram with arrows and circles all over it. I just wanted my coffee refill but ended up hearing about 30 minutes of gunshot trajectories and grassy knoll conspiracies. Has anyone else stumbled into a full-on debate in the wild like that?

The best move in that situation is to just nod and ask one specific question about the chain of evidence. These guys love showing off what they know, so feed them one detail and they will talk for another 20 minutes while you finish your eggs. I had a similar thing happen at a barber shop in Amarillo where a guy pulled out a folded up copy of the Warren Commission report from his back pocket. Just let them run with it, ask about the paraffin test or the autopsy x-rays, and keep your coffee cup full. Most of the time they just want someone to listen, not convert you to their theory.

I used to think the JFK thing was just old guys with too much time on their hands, but I actually changed my mind after I was stuck at a layover in Dallas last year. This retired history teacher sat down next to me at the gate and started talking about the angle of the shot and how the single bullet theory just doesn't line up with the medical reports. He showed me a copy of some autopsy photo on his tablet and I don't know, the way he explained it made too much sense to just be crazy rambling. Now I feel like an idiot for rolling my eyes at people who bring it up.
