He swore the $800 rugged case was a waste of money until the screen cracked on a job in Reno, so now I want to know what case you all actually trust to survive a real site.
We do this everywhere, cheap out on the thing that protects the expensive thing, then pay way more later. Same reason people skip the $40 screen protector and end up with a $200 repair, or buy a $30 helmet for a $1000 bike. The case is the cheapest part of the whole setup, but it's the part that decides if the setup still works on Friday. Get the real drop rated one, not the slim pretty one, and add a tether or a holster so it can't take the fall in the first place. A cracked screen on a job in Reno means no plans, no punch list, no nothing, so the case pays for itself the first time you fumble it.
