Rant: a foreman told me my daily logs were useless, so I switched to photos only
I used to write out these long daily reports on my tablet, like half a page per crew, weather notes, who showed up late, the whole thing. Took me 40 minutes at the end of every shift. Back in March a foreman on a job in Reno read one of them and said straight to my face that no one ever opens those files, they just get buried in a shared drive. That stung but he was not wrong. I tested it for two weeks and asked four people to find one specific note from a concrete pour and none of them could pull it up in under five minutes. So now I just take timestamped photos of everything, rebar spacing, forms before a pour, the sticker on the mix truck, and drop them into a folder by date and area. Takes me 8 minutes and the super actually looks at them because he can scroll instead of reading. The written log is gone completely and I have not missed it once. Curious if anyone else ditched paper reports for photo logs and how you keep them sorted.
Honestly who is actually reading daily logs on a job site anyway. Photos make sense on paper but what happens when someone gets hurt and the lawyers come asking about conditions that day. A timestamped pic of rebar spacing does not say who was on site, what the weather was, or whether the crew had proper training. So yeah the foreman was right that nobody reads them, but that is not the same as them being useless.
