Channel got 400k subs after switching thumbnails from gameplay shots to his own face
A gaming channel I follow sat at 900k subs for almost two years. Then in March he swapped his gameplay thumbnails for close-up reaction faces, nothing else changed, same games, same edits. Six weeks later he's at 1.3 million. I checked his old uploads and the view counts are genuinely night and day on the same style of video. Anyone else seen a thumbnail change move numbers that hard, or is this just YouTube luck?
I feel for the guy who grinded two years stuck at 900k. That kind of stall messes with your head, you start thinking the channel is dead. The face thumbnails work because our brains are wired to look at eyes and expressions first, especially on a tiny phone screen. I've watched small channels do the same swap and get 3x the clicks overnight, it is not just luck.
