Hot take: Spending a week on a thumbnail is a waste of time

Just spent 7 days trying to make a perfect thumbnail for a video. I kept changing the text, colors, and my face in the frame. The video itself only took 3 days to edit. Some creators say the thumbnail is everything for the algorithm. Others say you should just post and move to the next project. What's your rule? Do you set a hard time limit on thumbnails?

Yeah, I read something that stuck with me about this. A guy said to treat a thumbnail like a highway billboard. You only have a second for someone to get the point, so overthinking it misses the goal. I get what @jadew63 means about that feeling, though. My rule is one hour, max. If it's not working by then, I pick the best draft and move on. The video content has to be the real focus.

What's my rule? I once spent so long on a thumbnail that the video topic was no longer relevant.

Oof, that's the worst feeling, honestly.
