Streaming live from a coffee shop and my whole setup crashed

I was doing a live art stream from The Daily Grind in Portland, about an hour in with 80 viewers. My drawing tablet froze, then OBS crashed, and the stream just died. I had to tell people in the chat I was fixing it while I fumbled to restart everything. My laptop was hot and the power strip was overloaded from the tablet, ring light, and laptop charger. I unplugged the light, got the tablet working again, and went live after 8 minutes of dead air. Lost about half the viewers. Has anyone else had a public place power issue kill a stream, and how do you prep for it now?

Yeah, @owens.ben is right about old circuits lol. My friend had her whole vlog setup die at a library because of a faulty outlet, she carries a power strip with its own breaker now.

Oof, that's brutal. Honestly, I'd be looking at a small portable battery pack just for your laptop, the kind you can keep in your bag. That way if the outlet gives out, you've got a backup to keep the main thing running while you unplug the other stuff. Tbh, public outlets are never a sure thing, they're always on some old circuit with a fridge or something. Losing half your viewers after fighting with it is the worst feeling.
