Swapped my phone camera for a proper mic setup 3 months ago

I used to just record voiceovers with my phone held up to my mouth, and the audio was always thin and echoey. Then I grabbed a $60 USB mic and a cheap pop filter after watching a tutorial from a creator I follow. Now my voice sounds like I'm actually in the room with the viewer, and I get way fewer comments about bad sound. Has anyone else noticed a big jump in engagement after fixing their audio?

Wait, didn't your engagement jump like crazy too? Audio quality blew up my retention.

Get out of here. Audio quality did that? I never even thought about that making a difference for retention. That's wild.

Oh yeah, audio is huge. I ran a test a while back where I just upgraded my mic (nothing crazy, a $50 job) and used a cheap pop filter to clean up the plosives. Retention went up something like 15% across the board, which blew my mind at the time. You really gotta think about the listening experience too - if people have to strain or turn the volume up to catch what you're saying, they'll click off before you even get to the good stuff.
