Overheard a marketing director say their blog posts fail because they skip the research phase

She said they spend 10 hours writing but only 30 minutes checking what people actually search for, and now I'm wondering how many of my own pieces are just shooting in the dark - has anyone found a quick research method that doesn't take forever?

Yeah "shooting in the dark" is exactly right, I've burned way too many hours that way. Quick trick I swear by - just Google your topic and see what questions pop up in the "People also ask" box, then answer those first. Takes maybe 5 minutes and suddenly you're writing stuff people actually want to read.
