Spent $80 on fancy organic hot cocoa mix and it was gritty and awful

I got sucked into one of those Instagram ads for this artisanal hot cocoa brand from Portland. They talked up the single origin cacao and the stone grinding process and I thought, this has to be better than my usual Swiss Miss. I ordered the sampler pack for $80 including shipping. When it showed up, the mix was this coarse gritty powder that would not dissolve in milk no matter how much I stirred. I ended up with clumpy cold sludge at the bottom of my mug. My roommate laughed at me and said I should have just bought the generic store brand for two bucks. I tried adding marshmallows to cover it up but the texture was just wrong. Has anyone else fallen for a fancy comfort food that totally let you down?

$40 of my $60 order from that same Portland company was for shipping alone. I was a diehard fan of their coffee and figured the hot cocoa would be just as good. Nope. I tried mixing it with a whisk and then a blender and it still came out like gritty mud. I finally just dumped the whole bag into a batch of brownies and it worked okay there, but as a drink it was a total bust.

$40 for shipping on a $60 order? They could've at least thrown in a free scoop or something. And yeah, blending gritty mud into brownies is about the best use for that stuff. I've had hot cocoa that tasted like watered down sadness, but straight up mud texture is a new low.
