Had a client walk out mid-cut last week in Springfield, and I still can't shake it.
She came in for a balayage and trim, paid up front, everything seemed fine... then about 10 minutes in she just stood up and said "I don't think you understand what I want" and left. No warning or anything, just grabbed her bag and walked out the door. I'd only used a 20 volume developer and sectioned her hair into 4 quadrants like always. Has anyone else had someone bail like that mid-service?

I gotta push back a little here, because I'm reading this and thinking maybe she wasn't just being rude. You said you used 20 volume developer for a balayage, and that's fine for toning or a slight lift, but if her hair was already light or needed more lift, 20 volume might not have been enough to get what she wanted. Plus you sectioned into 4 quadrants, which is pretty standard for a full foil, but balayage usually works better with a more freehand, visual sectioning method. Maybe the disconnect is that she saw you doing a very structured setup and assumed you didn't have a plan for the lived-in, melted look balayage is supposed to give. Doesn't excuse her walking out without saying anything, but I can see how someone who's had bad experiences before might just bail if they think you're not on the same page.

That vibe check thing is real, I've had clients just shut down when they think I'm not listening.
