So I noticed a big change in how long perms hold on clients under 30
I've been doing hair for about 12 years now, and I swear perms on my younger clients (under 30) barely last 6 weeks anymore. Back in 2018 it was more like 3 months. I'm guessing it's from all the sulfate-free shampoos and dry shampoo buildup they use. Has anyone else seen this shift in your chair?

Started noticing the same thing around 2020. The dry shampoo buildup is definitely a big part of it - that stuff coats the hair shaft and blocks the solution from penetrating right. I've started using a clarifying shampoo first on younger clients, even if it means an extra step, and it helps the perm hold closer to that 3 month mark again. Also tell them to skip the dry shampoo for at least the first week after getting permed. Makes a noticeable difference.

The clarifying shampoo tip is genius, that buildup really does mess with everything.
