TIL a toner can turn someone's hair orange in 12 minutes flat
Left a client with level 8 highlights sitting under heat while I answered the front desk phone, came back to what looked like a Cheeto with roots, and now I set a timer for every single bowl I mix, has anyone else had a color meltdown from a simple distraction?

The timer thing is a rite of passage in this industry, honestly. We all learn that lesson exactly once, usually with a very orange client. Mine was a toner too, but at least it was only one bowl, not an entire head under heat. Now I set timers for literally everything, even if I'm just turning around to grab a brush. Orange is a hard color to undo, so the fear stays with you.

Funny how that works, right? You’d think the lesson would stay in the salon, but it bleeds into everything. Now I triple check the oven timer when I’m baking, and I even set one for laundry so I don’t forget a load and have to rewash it. It’s like that one mistake rewired my whole brain to never trust my gut on time again. Orange hair might not be the worst thing in the world, but it sure teaches you a lot about paying attention.
