Tried using a new high-lift color on a client's roots and got a weird green tint instead of blonde

I used Wella Color Touch 10/6 on her regrowth and it pulled green, anyone know if it was the underlying pigment clashing with the toner or did I just mess up the processing time?

I actually used to think high-lift colors were foolproof if you followed the timing exactly, but I changed my mind after I got green on a 10/6 once too. It wasn't the processing time for me, it was the underlying yellow pigment mixing with the blue in the toner. The 10/6 has blue-violet in it, and if the hair has leftover gold or orange tones from previous lightening, that collision makes that muddy greenish look. I'd check her natural base color before assuming it was your fault, because stubborn warm undertones will ruin any cool-toned formula.

Idk, I kinda think the timing still matters a lot though. I've done 10/6 on yellow hair plenty and never got green when I rinsed it at the right time.

Man that's exactly what happened to me a few months back. Did a 10/6 on a client with some old gold tones from a previous balayage and it came out looking like swamp water near the roots. It's definitely the clash between the blue in the toner and that leftover yellow pigment - I started doing a strand test on any client who's had color before and it saved me every time since. Did you check her underlying pigment before you applied?
