My foreman said to never trust a load chart from 2005, and last Friday in Cincinnati, a 30-ton lift almost went sideways because of it.

He argued that steel fatigue and design updates make old charts risky, but the project manager insisted the crane was 'proven', so has anyone else been pressured to use outdated specs?

Tell that project manager to stand directly under the next lift using that 2005 chart. See how "proven" he feels then. It's wild how people who never touch the gear are the first to gamble with it. Steel doesn't care about your past projects, it just fails when it's done. Saving five minutes on a new chart isn't worth a funeral.

What about the rigging gear though?

Our last charter in the BVI had a shackle pin back out on the mainsheet. Just a tiny bit of corrosion we all missed during the check. It's the small stuff that keeps me up at night, honestly.
