Vent: A new guy on the site kept asking why we couldn't just 'go faster'
Last week on a high-rise job in Denver, a greenhorn kept pushing about speed. I finally pulled him aside and showed him the load chart for our Liebherr LTM 1300, pointing out the 85% rule for the boom angle we were at. I explained that rushing a pick in that wind, with that concrete panel, wasn't about being slow, it was about the math not working. He got quiet after that. Has anyone else found a good way to explain capacity limits to new people without sounding like you're just being careful?

Showing them the math is the only thing that works. Pictures and charts make it real, not just you talking. It turns an opinion into a fact they can see.

Wait, you have to show people charts for them to believe you? What kind of arguments are you even having where a normal explanation doesn't work? That sounds exhausting. I guess some folks just refuse to listen until they see a bar graph.
