I used to think antivirus software was all you needed for protection

Back in 2017, I just ran whatever free antivirus came with my laptop and figured I was good. Then I got hit with a ransomware attack that locked up all my family photos from a trip to Lake Tahoe. Took me 3 days and $200 in recovery software to get them back. Now I use a password manager, two-factor authentication on everything, and I keep my OS updated like clockwork. The real game changer was learning that phishing emails are way more dangerous than viruses. I actually test myself now with fake phishing quizzes online. Has anyone else had a close call that made them totally rethink their setup?

Oh yeah, fake login pages are the worst. They really know how to make those look just real enough to fool you. That Spotify one would have gotten me too if I didn't have a bad habit of typing my password wrong on purpose the first time just to see if the site catches it. My close call came from a fake Amazon email about a package delivery delay. I clicked the link and it wanted my credit card info again for "verification." That's when my brain finally kicked in and I closed the browser. Now I just laugh at those things and send them straight to spam. Nothing like almost losing your money to teach you a good lesson.

Lost all my music playlists once because I clicked on a fake Spotify login.
