Rant: My mother-in-law almost lost her savings to a fake tech support call last Tuesday
She got a pop-up saying her PC was infected and called the number, then they had her install remote access software and demanded $500 for 'fixing' a virus that wasn't there. I caught it when she asked me to 'verify' the payment. Has anyone else had older relatives nearly fall for this, and what's the best way to pre-block those pop-ups?

That pop-up said her PC was infected, but did she actually have any files or programs acting weird before she called?" Sometimes they panic people into skipping the common sense check.
