Shoutout to my buddy for talking sense into me about password managers

So I was at a cookout last Saturday and my friend Dave who works in IT security started grilling me about how I store my passwords. I told him I just use the same basic password for everything with a few tweaks, and he spent like 15 minutes walking me through how easy it is for hackers to crack that stuff. He showed me on his phone how his password manager generates random 16 character passwords and auto fills them on every site. Now I'm sitting here realizing I've been super sloppy for years. Has anyone else had a friend call them out on bad password habits like this?

Did you check if Dave's password manager has that breach monitoring feature too?

Wait, is that REALLY a thing now on password managers? I thought breach monitoring was just something separate like on Have I Been Pwned. Honestly I've never seen a password manager that has that built in, but I guess it makes SENSE for them to do it. I just use a plain ol' spreadsheet for my passwords so I don't keep up with all the fancy features. Maybe Dave's got a newer one I haven't heard of yet.
