A master tech told me my torque wrench was wasting time and I stopped being lazy

I used to set my torque wrench to one number and use it for everything from head bolts to injectors. This old guy with 30 years in pulled me aside and said I was beating the threads on half the jobs. He showed me how to use a beam-style wrench for smaller stuff and keep the clicker for bigger hardware. Now I switch between three torque values per job and I haven't had a single callback in 6 months. Has anyone else had to unlearn bad torque habits from YouTube videos?

Oh man, that old school stuff actually works. I was torquing everything like a gorilla until a buddy showed me the right feel. Now I actually do thumb tight plus turns on small bolts and it saves me so much headache.

I mean, is it really that big of a deal either way?

Yeah totally, I mean I've been there too. It's way too easy to just crank down on everything and then wonder why stuff strips or snaps on you. Idk, learning that light touch on the small hardware really does change everything once you get used to it.
