Just realized I used to pack for a month like I was moving house

Two years ago I would bring a huge checked bag, a carry on, and a backpack for a 30 day stay in Lisbon. Now I do the whole trip with a single 35 liter backpack after a nightmare with lost luggage in Mexico City. It took three days to get my stuff back and I missed a client call. How do you guys handle packing for longer stays without going crazy?
