Had to pick between silverware up or down and my roommate lost it

I always put forks facing up because it feels cleaner to grab, but my roommate swears they get cleaner facing down. After a month of silent resentment, I caught him rearranging the basket at 11pm and now we have a designated fork row.

Forks up is the only way that makes sense, you need to grab the handle not the tines. But if your roommate insists on forks down, a designated row is a genius compromise that keeps the peace without anyone touching someone elses dirty silverware. Eventually you might just end up with your own personal basket on opposite sides of the drawer.

Forks down people are clearly wrong, but at least @alicesingh gets that the real solution is just creating physical separation before it turns into a full blown roommate war. A dedicated fork row is a good call, keeps everyone sane without having to touch anything that's been in someone else's mouth.
