Finally fixed the sagging gate after 2 summers of ignoring it
Last month I got tired of dragging that heavy pine gate across the patio at my place in Columbus, so I pulled the hinges and found the top bracket screws had stripped out from years of wind. I drilled new pilot holes, added some 3-inch deck screws with wood glue, and shimmed the latch side so it catches clean now. Anyone else put off a gate repair way longer than it actually took to solve?
Ha, two summers of dragging that gate around and the fix probably took you one afternoon. Sounds about right for how these things go. My back door has been sticking for about a year now and I keep telling myself it's a five minute job with a screwdriver. Good call on the wood glue with the deck screws though, that combo holds way better than just cranking new screws into stripped holes. My dad did the same thing on his shed door and it's still solid like ten years later.
