I used to fight with my old caulk gun until a plumber in Denver showed me the trick of cutting the tube tip at a 45-degree angle instead of straight across.

That simple switch, which I learned about two years ago, gives you way more control over the bead and makes sealing around a tub or window a one-pass job instead of a messy cleanup. Has anyone else picked up a small tip that made a big difference with a basic tool?

Yeah, the angle cut is a game changer for me.

Angle cuts seem like extra work for no real payoff. Morgan_ramirez has a point about straight cuts being easier in corners. It's just trim, not a heart surgery. I've messed up both ways and the room still looked fine.

Actually, most pros I know cut it straight across. The 45-degree thing can make it harder to get into tight corners.
