Remember when everyone was using pallet wood for everything?
I built a whole patio table from free pallets that took me a month of weekends to sand and treat. It lasted about a year before it warped and split in the Seattle damp, so I was out the $60 for all the deck screws and sealant. What's the current 'free' material trap people should avoid?

That pallet wood trap is brutal, man. Solidarity from another rainy climate victim. The new one seems to be using old shipping containers for sheds or tiny homes. People don't factor in the cost to make it safe, like cutting doors and windows without the whole thing buckling, or dealing with rust and insulation. It looks cheap until you need a crane and a welder.

Yeah and @nathana48 is right about the crane cost, that's the killer. My cousin tried the container thing for a storage shed. He cut a big opening for a garage door before reinforcing it, and the whole side just... sagged. Like a tin can you stepped on. Had to pay a crew to straighten it and weld in a whole steel frame. The container was $2,500, the fix was over four grand.
