Three hours to hang one door because I didn't check the frame for level

Bought a prehung interior door from Home Depot in Denver, figured it would take me an hour tops. Turns out my 1950s house frame was off by nearly half an inch, so I spent the afternoon shimming and re-cutting until it finally closed without dragging the top corner. Anyone else find that older houses just fight you on every single "simple" project?

Fight you on every single thing is right. I swear these old houses were built with ghosts that shift the foundation on purpose. My place is from the 40s and nothing is square, nothing is level, and every project turns into three trips to the hardware store because the original framing is just messing with you. Half an inch off on a doorframe sounds about right for a house that old, especially in Denver where the ground probably settled weird over time. Honestly I just stopped using a level and started cutting and shimming until it looks straight to my eye, because the level just lies to me anyway. Once you get past the frustration it kind of feels good to beat the house at its own game though.
