Tried a new way to hang a shelf and it actually worked better than I thought

I was putting up a small shelf in my laundry room and ran out of the plastic drywall anchors I usually use. All I had left were some old metal toggle bolts from a different job. I figured they were overkill for a light shelf, but I tried them anyway. After tightening them up, the shelf felt way more solid than any other one I've hung. I guess the toggle bolts spread the weight better even in a weak spot. Has anyone else had a simple swap turn out better than the 'right' tool for the job?

Ever try those little plastic snap toggles? I used them for a curtain rod in a plaster wall and they held up way better than the basic anchors I was going to use. Sometimes the heavier duty stuff just gives you that peace of mind, right? Makes you wonder why we even bother with the light duty options half the time.

Yeah, that "peace of mind" thing @rowan_roberts49 mentioned is real. I used to always cheap out on anchors until a shelf full of books came down at 3 AM. Now I just grab the heavy duty stuff first, even if it feels silly for a tiny shelf. My DIY motto is basically "overkill or bust" because I have zero trust in my own work.
