My plotter started skipping lines after 2 years of solid use

Working on a set of blueprints for a remodel in Boulder yesterday and my HP plotter just started skipping every third line. It made the whole elevation look like a dotted mess. I spent 2 hours cleaning the encoder strip and swapping cartridges before I found out the drive belt was loose. Has anyone else had a plotter just fall apart on them mid-project?

I mean, two years of solid use is pretty good but that's still rough timing, did you notice any weird sounds before it started skipping or did it just go out of nowhere? Idk, I've had belts last way longer on some machines and then others just crap out at the worst possible moment, maybe it's just a wear-and-tear thing with how much you're running it.

@blake322 yeah that's basically what happened to mine too, no warning just dead.
