Serious question, has anyone else had a dredge pump just... stop on them after hitting a weird patch of sediment?

I was working a channel in the Mobile River last month and the suction head jammed solid on what felt like a layer of old clay and gravel, something the survey didn't show. What's your go-to method for clearing a sudden blockage like that without tearing everything down?

Backflushing sounds like a great way to stress the impeller. Isn't that just asking for more damage if the jam is that solid?

Yeah that's a real worry. Seen a few pumps where forcing it the wrong way just made things worse. Uma's got a point about clean water though, that's the key. Gotta be super gentle if you try it, like barely bumping the motor. Honestly sometimes you just have to take the thing apart.

Backflushing with clean water from the discharge side has saved me a few times. If the sediment is really packed, a careful reverse run of the pump can break it loose without a full teardown.
