Tried to patch a hole with toothpaste and a cereal box in a pinch

I was finishing a basement in Toledo and ran out of spackle on a Sunday, with a small hole left. My buddy joked about the old 'toothpaste and cardboard' trick, so I tried it. The patch looked fine for about three hours, then it started to smell like mint and slowly sagged out of the wall. I had to cut the whole mess out and start over when the supply store opened. Anyone ever try a weird quick fix that totally backfired?

Baking soda and super glue saved me once.

Super glue is for broken stuff, not baking.

Yeah, and it's definitely not for fixing a broken cookie.
