Hot take: I spent $1,200 on kitchen cabinets from Home Depot and they're fine

Everyone in this group keeps saying you need to go custom or order from a specialty shop, but I took a chance on those stock cabinets from the big box store. After 18 months they haven't warped, the drawers still slide smooth, and I saved about $3,000 compared to the quotes I got. I put them in myself with a laser level and some shims, took me a weekend. Yeah the wood isn't as thick as the fancy stuff, but for a rental property I'm flipping it made sense. Has anyone else here gone the cheap route and regretted it later?

Yo same here. I grabbed a set of stock cabinets from Lowe's for a basement bar I threw together two years ago and they're still holding up fine. The biggest thing was making sure the floor was dead level before I started, took me an extra hour but worth it. Only thing I had to fix was one hinge that came loose but a little wood glue solved it. Can't beat saving that kind of cash for something that's just gonna see normal use.

Man, that's exactly my experience too. I did the same thing with some cheap cabinets for a laundry room remodel a few years back. They weren't perfect straight out of the box - I had to shim a couple spots because the wall was a little wonky. But honestly, once you get them level and anchored to the studs, they're solid. The only headache I had was the drawer slides were kinda cheap, so I swapped them out for some decent ones from the hardware store. Cost me maybe twenty bucks extra but now those drawers slide like butter. People get real snobby about using stock cabinets, but for a basement bar or a laundry room, they're totally fine if you put in a little work.
