I don't get the hype around spray foam insulation anymore
Had a house in St. Albert that I did with spray foam back in 2018 and now I'm dealing with a musty smell in the attic because the stuff trapped moisture. Tried retrofitting with rock wool on my current place near Whyte Ave and the air quality is way better. Anyone else have issues with spray foam not breathing right in Edmonton's climate?

Did you seal the attic up tight when you did the spray foam or did you leave some ventilation? Seems like a lot of guys skip the air sealing step up here.

Changed my mind too honestly. I used to be ALL about spray foam but after seeing that moisture issue play out in my own attic I'm not so sure it's the best call for our climate.

Did you check if the spray foam had enough time to fully cure before closing up the attic? In a climate like Edmonton's with the freeze-thaw cycles, offgassing or residual moisture can really mess things up. What was the crew's cure time recommendation on that 2018 job?
