Fixed a 'dead' monitor today that just needed the main board caps replaced, not the whole panel

I've seen three of these 27-inch Dell Ultrasharps this month where people were told the panel was shot, but it was just a few bad capacitors on the main logic board. I swapped them out with some 1000uF 16V ones I had, and the screen lit right up. How many good monitors do you think get tossed because of this one simple fix?

Makes me wonder how many I've thrown out myself. @the_pat, your guy probably saw a lot of us coming.

So what's the actual failure rate on those specific caps? Is it a known bad batch from a certain year, or is it just the normal wear and tear on a cheap part? I've got an old Ultrasharp in the closet I was about to recycle.

My old TV repair guy said half his business was just replacing these cheap capacitors.
