That Tuesday I fixed 12 boards and still lost money

Had a day last month where I reflowed 8 Xbox power supplies and recapped 4 monitors, but the customer argued every single invoice down to the dollar. Anyone else ever walk out of the shop after a busy day feeling like you barely broke even?

Man that's rough. Sounds like you worked your tail off and still got squeezed on every single job. Some customers just don't get that the time and skill part of the work is worth something too. I had a string of those days last fall where I'd put in 10 hours and leave with basically nothing after parts and overhead. It's frustrating when people argue over a few bucks but don't see the work you actually did.

Wait... you worked 10 hours and barely broke even after parts? That's unreal, @eric_murray26. Same thing happened to me a couple months ago on a big tree removal where the stump grinder threw a belt halfway through. By the time I got the part and ate the extra labor I was in the hole for the day. People see a number on a quote and don't think about the truck payment, insurance, the fuel, the wear and tear on gear... it adds up fast. Can't believe you walked away with nothing after a full shift like that.
