Last week's controller swap took me 6 hours instead of 2 because of one bad wire

I was swapping out an old MCE controller at a 12-story office building downtown. Everything looked clean on the print but when I powered up I kept getting a door open fault. After chasing my tail for 4 hours I finally found a crushed wire inside the harness that was grounding out intermittently. Has anyone else had a simple job turn into a whole day ordeal over something stupid like a pinched wire?

i mean is it really that deep tho? like yeah it sucks but a full day ordeal seems a bit dramatic for a wire. you'll live lol

Is it really worth spending an entire day getting poked and prodded over a wire coming loose? I had a bracket pop off once and the ortho just glued it back on in five minutes. People act like every little thing with braces is a medical emergency when half the time it's just an annoyance. A full day off for that seems like a lot unless you're just looking for an excuse to skip work.

Wait, "a wire coming loose?" No, you're talking about completely different things. That MCE controller had a crushed wire that was grounding out intermittently, not like a loose bracket on braces. I can't believe you're comparing a physical safety device for a multi-story elevator to orthodontic work. A pinched wire in a control harness means the elevator can randomly decide to stop working or worse, trap someone between floors. That's not an "annoyance" you can just shrug off like a pokey brace. I'm honestly shocked you'd think an intermittent fault in life safety equipment is the same as something that just makes your mouth uncomfortable for a few hours.
