Spent 3 hours trying to get my smart thermostat to stop sharing data with a third party I never agreed to

Finally found the setting buried under six menus in the app and now my heating schedule actually feels private, has anyone else had to dig that deep just to turn off data sharing?

Yeah that sounds about right. They always bury the privacy stuff deep so most people just give up looking for it. I had to do the same thing with my smart speaker settings, it took me like an hour to find the mic off switch because it wasn't even in the audio settings. It's real frustrating how they make it hard on purpose. Feels like they're betting you'll just get tired and leave it on by default.

On my phone I finally found the privacy toggles buried under a menu called "Device Preferences" instead of the actual privacy section. Took me three tries and a YouTube video to figure it out.

Yeah they count on people giving up, like how my TV remote has a dedicated Netflix button but the input button is hidden under the battery cover.
