Why I gave up on smart doorbells with facial recognition

I used to love the idea of cameras that recognize friends and family. Then I read how often they mess up and flag innocent people, especially from some groups. I unplugged mine and went back to a plain doorbell. It might not be as fancy, but it stops me from adding to a system that can cause real harm.

Your point about them flagging innocent people made me rethink my own doorbell choice.

Honestly though @jessica540, isn't a few false flags worth it for the bigger picture security? My cousin's caught real porch pirates because of those alerts. The system works more often than not.

Ever have your own doorbell think you're a stranger? Mine flagged me three times last week coming home with groceries, and I live here. I mean, if it can't even recognize the guy who pays for the subscription, maybe it's trying to tell me something. Kinda hard to trust it with my friends when it clearly has a problem with my face.
