Ran into an old neighbor at the Everett farmers market who said I ruined the block

Last Saturday I was grabbing some corn at the Everett farmers market and saw Mrs. Patterson who lived two doors down from us on 12th Street. She told me straight up that my chain link fence made the whole street look trashy back in 2018. I just stood there holding my bag of tomatoes not knowing what to say. Has anyone else had a neighbor hold a grudge over something like a fence?

Did she mean the actual chain link or just that it was old and rusty? I had the same thing happen with a neighbor who was mad about my lawn being too tall one summer, then two years later she brought it up again at a block party. People get stuck on stuff like that and it just sits in their head forever. Sounds like Mrs. Patterson has been holding onto that fence complaint for a while now. Bet she tells that story every time she sees a chain link fence in town.
