My neighbor in apartment 4B said you can't refill a plastic water bottle more than twice
We were at the building's laundry room and she pointed at my bottle, telling me it starts leaking chemicals after a couple uses. I always thought that was just a rumor, but she was so sure. She said she read a study from a university in Michigan about it. Has anyone actually seen proof this is real, or is it just another scare story?

Actually, that Michigan study gets quoted a lot but it's often taken out of context. The real risk is from heat and damage, not a set number of refills. If your bottle isn't cracked or left in a hot car, you're probably fine for way more than two uses.

Guess that explains my three-year-old car bottle.

Way more than two uses" feels like a big gamble with something that can leach chemicals. I'd rather just replace a cheap bottle.
