Had to choose between a propane forge and a coal forge for my new shop setup

Went with the coal forge for better heat control on tricky corrective shoes, but the extra cleanup is a real pain. Anyone have a system to manage coal dust and clinkers without it taking half your day?

Actually, I think you've got that backwards a bit. Propane gives you way more precise control with a turn of a valve. Coal's great for a big, even heat, but it's slower to change. The cleanup is the real trade-off. I keep a metal bucket right by the forge for clinkers as I work, so they don't pile up. For the dust, a cheap shop vac dedicated to just the forge area is a total game changer.

Total game changer" seems like a lot for a shop vac. It's just moving dust from one spot to another. The real game changer is not making the mess in the first place.

My old shop teacher swore by wet burlap over the coal pile. It cuts the dust down a lot.
