My take on trimming alone without a handler, and why it's not as risky as everyone says.
I know most farriers won't agree, but after years of dealing with unreliable helpers, I've started trimming most horses by myself. With calm horses and proper positioning, I find I can work faster and with less stress. Sure, there's a risk, but I've built trust with the animals and haven't had a serious issue yet. It's saved me time and money on hiring extra hands.

Heard old timers say you develop a sixth sense.

That "sixth sense" is just your brain finally noticing all the little signs you used to miss. You stop looking at the horse as a whole and start seeing the tight muscle in its shoulder or the slight flick of its ear first. It's not magic, it's paying attention on a different level. The day you think you've got it all figured out is the day you get lazy and miss something big, right?

Yeah, "haven't had a serious issue yet" sounds like famous last words before a hoof meets your face.
