Stopped by a track in Ocala last week and noticed nobody was using the same rasp I had in my apron
Every single farrier there was working with a different brand of rasp and had their own way of holding it. Makes me wonder if we all just get stuck on what we learned first or if there's actually a best tool for the job. Has anyone else seen this at a clinic or competition?

Friend of mine went to a clinic in Kentucky and spent the whole weekend trying out different rasps. Swapped with three different people and said he felt like an idiot by Sunday because the one he'd been using for years was actually the one he HATED the most after trying others.

Sounds like a humbling weekend for sure.

Oh man, that "hated the most" feeling hits hard. I've been exactly there with a tool I'd been using for way too long (it was a block plane, took me forever to admit it was garbage). Best thing you can do is go into those clinics with an open mind and try everything, even the ones you think you'd hate.
